Vintage Alice

The original book cover of the 1898 edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

The character, Alice, is widely assumed to be based on the daughter of a family friend of Carroll's, Alice Liddell.

Vintage Friday

It's vintage Friday and although these aren't technically vintage they certainly have a 1960's vintag-esque feel to them! And of course they fit right in with the Alice in Wonderland theme for today as well.

These really cool images were found over at Chateau Thombeau.
They are by artist, John Coulthart, and they've actually been made into a 2010 calendar. If you're interested in ordering one click here.

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! Late for an IMPORTANT DATE!

It's finally here!

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland opens in Toronto TODAY,.. and in 3-D!
The star-studded cast includes
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

To see a fantastic montage of all 3 promo posters side by side click here!

Synopsis: 19 year old Alice returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror.

Meet the characters!

Alice - "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?" - Louis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

The Red Queen - "Off with their heads!"

The Mad Hatter - "There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter... Which luckily I am."

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum

The White Queen

Still not excited about seeing the film? Take a look at the trailer below and you won't be able to contain yourself!

Here are some stills from the film. The imagery is just so amazing and fantastical! I love the story of Alice in Wonderland... oh what fun it would be to stumble upon another world full of marvel and whimsy!

Johnny Depp is going to be amazing in this role. He has such a deep range of characters; definitely making him a seasoned actor at playing misfits! He and visionary director, Tim Burton have collaborated on many other films together, including Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, and Sweeney Todd.

“To be able to do anything that Tim wants me to do is an honour. He could have cast me as Alice and I would have said yes. I would have done whatever character Tim wanted. But, being able to breathe life into the character of the Mad Hatter — taking what Lewis Carroll has done, combined with Tim’s vision and throwing in my own stuff — this is what dreams are made of. For me, it’s a dream come true,” - Johnny Depp. (source)

"Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!"
- Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

He [Depp] says his entire career has been like a trip through Wonderland, but the Mad Hatter character is special. “He’s like a beating heart; a person who cannot hide anything, a person whose emotions are close to the surface." (source)

Will you be seeing the film?

Home Invasion!

Over the past few weeks, while in bed at night we've been hearing scratching, scraping, squeaking, and squeeling coming from the walls and the ceilings...

From what? We were not entirely sure... Lions, Tigers, and Bears! Oh My!

And just this past week we've been coming home to disarray amongst our things - someone or something is invading our home when we're not looking and messing everything up!

So yesterday we set up cameras to catch images of what could possibly be going on.

And this is what we saw....

The Truth: We've known for a little while there are squirrels and raccoons living in our walls. A few days ago we came home to find our loft room in shambles.. .they had found a way IN! Yesterday, to ensure that it was indeed critters and not just Joe, our resident ghost, I set out cheese slices and crackers. When I came home they were gone. Conclusion: We indeed do have furball invaders... because ghosts do not eat cheese...

Spring Fever

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Toronto and it's got me daydreaming about spring!
Below are some pretty images of flowers I've been collecting. My favourites are the simple arrangements with a just a few stems placed in a jar or teacup :)

We are having a party this weekend so it's a perfect excuse to fill the house with flowers!
